HOW WE WORK

How We Work

Copywriting & Strategy (Better Together)

Your success is our success, which is why we’re so focused on working with companies for whom we know we can make a difference. Typically, we work on a per-project or ongoing retainer basis — because some clients may have a one-time need, while others work with us as an integral extension of their marketing or communication efforts.

We do also offer package (or bundled pricing) for select services, such as strategy and website copywriting, as well as customized packages depending on your specific project or campaign needs.

Step 1: Getting to Know You

Since each business or team has unique needs, we ask a few simple questions about your business, your products/services and what you’re trying to do (whether that’s a strategy, copywriting or a website project).

This helps us define the project together so that you can get the most accurate pricing. If you’re not sure what you need or want to discuss your ideas in greater detail, we can schedule a complimentary 45-minute Discovery Call.

Step 2: What’s the Scope?

We’re writers, so we like to put it all in writing. Since no two projects are exactly alike, we’ll send you a quote or statement of work that outlines your specific project details including: goals, expected results/success metrics, deliverables, expected timeline, rounds of revisions and account management details — as well as investment pricing and terms.

Fees for any of our services, including project, retainers and package (or bundled pricing) are agreed upon in advance. If we need to use any outside resources or purchase additional goods/services (e.g. photography, logo design, web hosting, etc.), we include a 10-25% mark-up to cover the necessary management services.

Step 3: Signature & 40% Payment

A signed quote or proposal is all we need to get started. We ask for 40% up front as a Project Confirmation to initiate the work. This is non-negotiable. Please note, if the project value is below $1,000, we bill 100% up front.

Step 4: Onboarding Meeting

When we get to this stage, we feel it’s important to get to know one another a little better. We’ve worked with busy teams and executives, so we’re flexible working the way that’s most efficient for your business. Depending on your location, we can meet in person, schedule a face-to-face Zoom or Skype meeting, or even just talk on the phone or via email.

We’ll ask you a few more questions about your business, such as:

  • Brand tone/voice
  • Target audience
  • Sales/marketing processes
  • Competitor landscape
  • Additional background material & assets
  • Timeline & project communication

We can also discuss anything else that you might think can inform the project, as well as new ideas and questions you might have.

Step 5: Write. Edit. Rinse. Repeat.

Once we’ve got everything, it’s time to roll up our sleeves and get started. All documents are supplied to you in electronic format for consolidated review and feedback. Depending on the size of your project, we may also use Asana or Google Docs for collaborative project management.

Every project includes two rounds of revisions, which means you get three document versions: a first draft, second draft and final draft. In our timelines, we build in four (4) business days for client review and response. Because we often work with multiple stakeholders on projects, we ask that you designate a point person to work with throughout the process.

We know that sometimes, changes or additional revisions are necessary. Just like the original quote, we’ll put any additional requests and costs in writing for your approval before we proceed.

Step 6: Happy Dance! Final Delivery.

Once the job is done, we’ll send along final files for every deliverable — all nice, neat and organized. At that time, we’ll invoice you for the final amount. Payment terms are net 10. We stand behind our work. The Artessa Promise means that, If you don’t get the results we agree upon, we’ll continue to work at no additional cost until the results are achieved.

And of course, we should both be doing a happy dance after working together! So if you love what we’ve done for you, we ask that you share the results and give us a quick testimonial for us to include on our website.
